66th Sawai Gandharv Bhimsen Mahotsav concludes with Prabha Atre’s classic Jai Jaiwanti

The last day of 66th Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav was opened with a beautiful vocal

They together performed Raag ‘Shuddha Sarang’. They also presented a very popular Bhajan ‘Baje Re Muraliya Baje’ and concluded with a Marathi composition by Sant Tukaram ‘Dnyaniyancha Raja Guru Maharao’ which was very much appreciated by the audience.

They were followed by Vocalist sisters Apoorva Gokhale and Pallavi Joshi who together

performed Raag ‘Gaud Sarang’.

 

 

After that, renowned Veena player Nirmala Rajshekhar and violinist Indradeep Ghosh presented a mesmerizing Veena-Violin performance.

Sanjeev Abhyankar

Their performance was a beautiful blend of Carnatic and Hindustani music. They started with a composition in Raag ‘Hansadhwani’ ‘Vatapi Ganapatim Bhajeham’ and then performed some compositions in Raag ‘Charukeshi’.

They were followed by renowned Vocalist of Mewati Gharana, Sanjeev Abhyankar, who presented Raag ‘Poorvi’. He presented some self composed compositions in Bhakti Ras. He also presented Raag ‘Shuddha Barari’ and concluded with a self composed Abhang by Sant Tukaram ‘Bolava Vitthal Pahava Vitthal’.

Pratik Chaudhari, son and disciple of Sitar Player Pt. Debu Chaudhari performed Raag ‘Marwa’ on Sitar. He also performed a different Taal called ‘Hanumant Taal’ which was very well appreciated by the audience.

Pt. Birju Maharaj performed ‘Abhinay Prastuti’ in Kathak dance which is known by the name ‘Baithak Ka Bhav’.He presented ‘Abhinay’ on a composition ‘Jane De Mai Ka Suno Sajanava’ which got a spontaneous response from the audience.

Saswati Sen, disciple of Pt. Birju Maharaj and Ragini Maharaj, grand-daughter of Pt. Birju Maharaj presented some Kathak compositions.

As per the tradition, the five day festival ended with a mesmerizing performance by veteran Vocalist of Kirana Gharana, Dr. Prabha Atre. She performed Raag ‘Jayjaywanti’.
