Veteran musians, celebrity disciples to dazzle in 66th Sawai Gandharv fest in Pune

The sixty-sixth ‘Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav’ Indian music festival, which will go live late afternoon on the 12th of December 2018, will be a formidable mix of young and veteran musicians. In this annual five-day treat, the exponents of different Gharans of Indian music will offer a piece of their art and promising youngsters making their presence felt by a display of their talent honed under the guidance of their able Gurus.

Veteran vocalists Parveen Sultana, Ulhas Kashalkar and Ajay Pohankar and Sanjeev Abhyankarpromising singer Sawani Shende and santoor star Rahul Sharma and Pune’s own Shahid Parvez are among names “Sawai” regulars are familiar with, while true to the traditions of ‘Sawai’ to encourage newcomers by offering to them a public platform, the Fest will witness 13 of the 30-odd artists performing here for the first time.

A high point of the festival will be a performance by legendary Kathak dancer Birju Maharaj and his disciple Shashwati Sen.

Tickets for the festival will be available from 4 December.  Season ticket for chair are in two categories and will cost Rs. 4000/- and Rs.3000/-. Season ticket of Indian seating will cost Rs.500/-. The daily ticket for Indian seating category would be Rs.200/-. Daily tickets can be purchased in advance and can be used for any day of the festival. Daily tickets are also available for chair, which will cost Rs. 800/-

Tickets will be available  at Behere Ambewale, Shanipar, Shirish Traders (Bodhani), near Kamala Nehru Park, Navdikar Musicals, Opp. Yashwantrao Chavan theatre & Abhiruchi Foods, Aranyeshwar, Sahakarnagar. The online ticket booking will also start on December 4 from 9am on www.esawai.com.

The festival is going to take place at a new venue this year – at the Maharashtriya Mandal Sports Grounds in Pune’s Mukund Nagar locality. Shriniwas Joshi, son of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and a trustee of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal (organisers) said he hoped the music lovers will take to the new venue enthusiastically.
