To remember the contribution of great Vocalist Pt. Bhimsen Joshi to the Indian Classical Music, Kalashree Sangeet Mandal and Kannada Sangha have organized a unique musical event named ‘Abhivadan’.
The event will take place on Saturday, 22 February, at 5 pm, at Shakuntala Shetty Auditorium, Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Ganeshnagar.
The event will open with the performance of Shashwati Chavhan, a disciple of vocalist Sudhakar Chavhan. She will be followed by Viraj Joshi, a young vocalist, and grandson of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Puneites will also get a chance to listen to Aarti Ankalikar- Tikekar, renowned vocalist of Jaipur- Atrauli Gharana and Shujat Khan, renowned Sitarist. The event will be concluded with the performance of Prabha Are, a veteran vocalist of Kirana Gharana.
Pt. Bhimsen Joshi’s birthday falls in February. This is also the month in which he was awarded by the highest honor of the country- ‘Bharatratna’. The event will mark these two occasions and present a musical tribute to Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. The entry to the event is free and open for all on first come first serve basis.
