“The objective of organizing such a festival of dance is to create awareness among young dancers and the new generation of artists about different aspects of dance film making, the need for documentation and motivate them to watch and learn from them. The young dancers will get in-depth vision on what to focus while watching dance films, how to ‘film’ dance, how not to present dance in films among other information. This year we have films from across the border too so it will indeed be a treat for all dance lovers,” said Neha Muthiyan, organizer of the event.

Arundhati Patwardhan, Bharatnatyam dancer and Secretary of Kalavardhini Charitable Trust said, “Not only amateur dancers but students who are into film direction will benefit from this Dance Film Festival.”

On Saturday, the festival will screen film ‘His Father’s Voice’, directed by Kaarthikeyan Kirubhakaran as its opening movie. The film is a social drama about a gifted male dancer separated from his musician father in childhood who must return to him, to be able to dance again. It gives a look at the spiritual quest behind dance and music in the Indian culture.

It will be followed by a Marathi movie- ‘Eka Swapnacha Pravas’. Following that, a movie called ‘Dancing Shoes’ will be screened. The first day of the festival will conclude with the screening of the film, ‘The Thinking Body’ which treats the subjects of the art, dance, and its implicit psychology in the context of the Indian culture.
