‘Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Race’ makes debut in India

Square Mile Sport, in association with Bloomberg, has added one more city to their books today as they announced the launch of the Bloomberg Square Mile Mumbai, making India’s financial capital the 11th city globally to participate in the biggest corporate relay series. The race will be held on 15th March, 2019. Registration to participate in the race is open now for all corporates at www.squaremilerelay.com.

The event is a unique, immersive team building experience with more than 100 companies regularly participating and competing against each other in each city. The wider purpose of the race series is to get the corporate world moving, educated on the importance of physical activity and team-building through exercise. Each team is made up of 10 co-workers, each of whom will run a unique one-mile course around Jio Garden, BKC, Mumbai. The race culminates with a celebratory ‘After-Party’ where runners will be treated to a live DJ performance as well as food and drinks.

The series is already an annual fixture in the business and sporting calendars of 10 major financial cities around the globe including Dubai, Sydney, New York, Tokyo, San Francisco, Paris, London, Shanghai, Sao Paulo, Singapore and Hong Kong and now Mumbai becomes the latest addition. More than 38,000 runners have participated since the first race was held in London in 2007.

James Hassett, Managing Director, Square Mile Sport said, “The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is a one-of-a-kind team-building experience with an opportunity for corporate firms and market leaders to not only give back something to the community but to also promote the spirit of fitness, exercise, competition, teamwork, celebration and networking. Most importantly, the race stands for its sporting enthusiasm and bonding with fellow colleagues. The event is open to all levels of experience – whether you are an elite or leisure runner – we want everyone to enjoy this event experience.”

The relay is a key opportunity for organisations to build team spirit, boost employee engagement, and support the principles of health and well-being within the workplace. The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Mumbai is targeted at businesses, professional service firms, private companies, NGOs or any other organisations

“We’re very excited to be bringing this race to Mumbai for the first time,” said Ashlesh Gosain, Head of South Asia at Bloomberg. “Our success in India these last 20 years has been defined by strong teamwork and collaboration within our industry. This race brings this growing community together to participate in a fun, healthy and competitive activity that helps you give back to society.”

This year, the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is proud to introduce The Extra Mile: a chance to make an impact way beyond the finish line and contribute to the local community in a bigger, better way. The Extra Mile is a community-led initiative, which addresses a unique social challenge in each city. It gives runners and spectators alike the opportunity to make a meaningful and actionable difference to public health, education, arts or the environment of their communities, all through using the power of sport. At least 25 percent of each team’s entry fee will be donated to the designated project, Magic Bus, and runners and race fans have the opportunity to give back through service hours as well as throughout the year-long funded program.
