Celebrating Pune: Pune International Centre, The Positive Aging Report 2021, Suratwwala Business Group, Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL)

Sustainability and digital tools are driving the inclusive innovations  and driven by these two forces today’s time is ideal for entrepreneurs to drive social impact solutions at bigger scale opined experts at the ninth edition of National Conference on Social Innovation organized by Pune International Centre ( PIC) . Convened in association with the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), NCSI provides a platform to innovators for showcasing their innovations and facilitates collaboration between social innovators, impact investors, and CSR departments of leading corporate houses. This year the two day conference is being held virtually. The inaugural program included the Anjani  Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award  and was given this year to Dr.Subhash Narayanan founder of  ‘Sascan’ an emerging healthcare innovation company which developed  OralScan, a hand-held imaging device for screening of oral cancer.

Globally, the elderly are often perceived as devoid of passion, independence, and individuality. Breaking such stereotypes, valuable insights from The Positive Aging Report 2021 commissioned by India’s and most preferred senior living community operator Columbia Pacific Communities has put the spotlight on how the elderly strongly associate their identity with careers, passions, and interests. Of all the major cities surveyed, over 68% elderly respondents in Bengaluru identified with their careers, passions and interests, than with family, religious beliefs, and friendships. Likewise in Pune, over 57% elderly identified with their careers, passions and interests, and over a third, around 38%, had found at least one new hobby in the past one year. Interestingly, over half of them, around 51%, started a new hobby in the past 1 year, whereas in the past 5 years, 60% of senior respondents in Bengaluru started a new hobby, interest or passion (beyond work) compared to just 5% in Hyderabad. Notably, 61% of senior respondents in Pune and 54% in Bengaluru introduce themselves with their profession, hobbies, and interests.

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) along with its technology partner, Nokia, today announced that it has successfully conducted a 5G trial. The trial utilized 5G in the 3.5GHz spectrum band allocated by the Government for 5G trials, to provide rural broadband connectivity in Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Using Nokia’s solution, Vi successfully trialed providing 5G connectivity across an area covering 17.1 km while delivering speeds of more than 100Mbps. This 5G trial by Vi along with Nokia, supports the Indian government’s Digital India vision of providing reliable and high-speed connectivity in rural areas. Vi is using Nokia’s AirScale radio portfolio and Microwave E-band solution for the trial that support enterprises, both large and small and medium businesses with reliable connectivity.
